About

Michael Kornas is one of the most promising pianists of his generation. Numerous musical greats accompanied and taught him on his musical path, most recently Dominik Wania, under whose pedagogical direction he completed his master’s degree at the Krakow Music Academy in 2021.

In 2020 he won the internationally renowned “Transatlantyk Instant Composition” contest in Katowice.

In March 2021 his debut album “After Darkness Comes Light” was released, which he recorded with Kamila Drabek on double bass and Bartłomiej Dybel on drums.
Born and raised in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, later active in Munich and now a 5-year degree in Kraków, Poland, where he became an integral part of the Kraków jazz scene, he is now between bavarian beer and pierogi in search of his personal sound. Contrary to his special sense of humor, he always finds profound emotions in his compositional process and brings them to life, which he now also shows in his latest album “Apatheia”, which can be assigned to the category “Modern Jazz”. This quartet consists of excellent and well-known musicians from the Polish jazz scene such as Marcin Konieczkowicz on saxophone, Alan Wykpisz on bass and Maksymilian Olszewski on drums.

In the foreground of this quartet is the empathy for the music. Various musical concepts, catchy melodies and new timbres merge into an authentic work that should touch and inspire the listener. Through their collective improvisation, the joint dialogue on stage, the reaction to each other’s creative ideas, the quartet creates unique moments that break through styles.

Michael Kornas currently lives and works in Berlin.
